I'm having the *exact* same problem on my new Vista Ultimate x86 setup! Do you have the hotfix readily available for download?
The Microsoft support page for this problem is unhelpful when it comes to downloading the hotfix. Instead, they want me to contact their technical support and possibly get billed for the fix! What the hell?
Request the hotfix online - avoid the PSS charge:
https://support.microsoft.com/contactus2/emailcontact.aspx?scid=sw;en;1410&WS=hotfix If you have trouble, email me with the link on the left side of the website.
Thank for the link! Hot fix installed. Will be testing it overnight. So far so good.
I've been running with this hotfix for over a week and the bug has never triggered again, so this is definitely "the fix" for this problem. It was really bothering me because it always cropped up at the worst possible times.
I have a similar but different problem. I am running Vista 64 and have not set up ICS. I connected to one particular hot spot just fine for my first couple times. On my third visit, I began to have trouble, but eventually got on. The next time I could not get on the network at all. Other users have no trouble. I've been through all the widows repair features several times and everything else it suggests, except plugging in. One error message says that something is wrong with "one or more of the network adapters." Others are as follows...
This computer is connected to Village Inn but does not have access to the internet. -If you are connecting to a wireless hotspot, you might need to open a web browser to finish connecting -(I tried this...) "Cannot communicate with Primary DNS Server (209.218.76.2)" "Network diagnostics pinged the remote host but did not receive a response" Do you have any idea what this could be...??? and what could be done to fix it? I've found nothing but dead ends. Oh yeah, turning off Windows firewall doesn't fix it either, which was the first suggestion of the HP support tech. Thanks
I get error code 40 while trying to unzip this file, anyone know what that's about?
I've had the same problem when I left the path to unzip to on it's default (C:) but it worked when I changed it to C:\temp...
i cant download the hotfix, anyone have it? could send by mail? (my english sucks)
I have this same problem. I'm going to try this. This DEFINATELY happened about an hour after I tried to configure the Internet Connection Sharing for the first time.
I disabled ICS and got my internet back, but the problem kept happening intermitantly, basically once a day... and it would "fix" itself after a few hours. I have 6 online classes so I can't just wait for moody Vista to decide to let me access the internet again... A reboot does fix this but you never know when its going to cut out. Also for me, all DNS cuts out. Programs that don't need DNS, such as torrents and ICQ have no problem connecting during the blackouts.
I can't get this hotfix either. I tried the link on this page, it leads me to the article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937168/en-us, so far so good. But when I submit the form on the page https://support.microsoft.com/contactus2/emailcontact.aspx?scid=sw;[LN];1414&from=KBHotfix&WS=hotfix (which I get from KB 937168), I get a reply from MS support that there is no hotfix.
Any ideas?
I have something similar to this on Vista 32 ultimate with SP1 and all patches applied - however i am not using ICS ( service is disabled ): after some random amount of time from boot-up all browsers stop returning internet data. ( i.e.7 reports that it has found the website and is waiting for a response, firefox and opera just go (Not Responding) ) however games continues to find and interact with the net perfectly well.
The hung browsers cannot be killed with task manager, nor with command line: taskkill /f /im firefox.exe Vista has just been freshly installed on a new harddrive and all patches applied via Windows Update; + Avast Home 4.8.1.2.96; Zone Alarm ( free 8.00.065 ). on logging out and in again the browsers report that another user is still using them so they cant start another copy ( so something - presumably whatever is stuck in the first place - hasnt been released by logging out ). on reboot connection is ok again until it fails... etc etc... |
