One liners: Disable the PC Speaker beeps in 200x/XP/Vista

These commands assume administrative rights on the PC.

To temporarily disable the PC Speaker beep:
net stop beep

To disable the PC Speaker beep for good (until you undo this setting):
sc config beep start= disabled

So, if you are bothered right now by PC Speaker beeps and want them to go away even after a reboot, run net stop beep and then run sc config beep start= disabled.

The space between start= and disabled is required.

I have the instant messaging program Pidgin, and one of it's faults is that there is an error that makes it beep if you backspace in an instant message that you haven't typed anything in yet, it would beep.
The fix they had for it didn't work on my computer...

This shut it up! ^_^

there is an option in the GTK+:

"and just for everyones knowledge, what I thought was a typo was not, put

gtk-error-bell = 0

in the file %APPDATA%\.purple\gtkrc-2.0 "
