Tnx, It worked, only i was primarily doing it to syn my outlook agenda between my desktop and laptop (using iphone) and that still doesnt work.
Is there a possible solution? tnx
I used the same (albeit slightly modified) instructions and got iTunes 8 to install. I grabbed iTunes 8 via this link http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iTunes8/061-4747.20080909.Crkr2/iTunes864Setup.exe and altered the Launch condition value to 501 with Orca and it's running fine.
How do you open the itunes setup 64 exe file in orca, it only asks for msi and such, gives me an error on exe. Thanks
You have to unpack the exe installer with 7zip (which I snobbily suggest you have installed anyway, as it's a free and more streamlined freeware alternative to Winzip and it's ilk) and then use Orca to alter the iTunes64.msi.
Get the 8.01 installer here, BTW: http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iTunes8/061-5556.20081002.Aw234/iTunes80164Setup.exe
No dice either way. Apple is getting to be very similar to Microsoft in that they put out a device or program that is seriously lacking.
You know you can just delete the launch condition table completely.
The MSI will still work. The launch condition msi table specifies what OS the msi will and will not run on, deleting it will allow it to run on all OS. Whether the application works though, is another matter.
I have gone throug the steps. When I run the modified Itunes installer iTunes.msi I get an error message (2229) and have to quit the installer.
Please help
I´m listening ...
Got the same problem here.... Error message (2229)
2229 has been worked around at PlanetAMD64 by user “arth” over at the forum:
“I got an error when trying to install, error code 2229. To solve the problem I dropped the LauchnConditions table and in InstallExecuteSequence and InstallUISequence tables deleted the LaunchConditions action. After that save the MSI file and close ORCA”
Well impressed with the article - needed a few tweaks to deal with the latest revison of iTunes - the 64bit version of QuickTime refused point blank to install initially - even after using the same tweaks recommended for iTunes.
To work around this I installed the 32bit verion of QT, followed this with iTunes64 and overinstalled the 64 bit version of QT - works like a charm! BTW I have the touch variant but it still managed to import all my purchases and all seems hunky dory
Cheers! The method on yukichigai worked well for me even with iTunes 9.0.0.70. As jh said, you just have to do the same thing for the AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi as you do for the iTunes64.msi.
One problem I've found so far with the above method is that iPhone firmware updates don't seem to work. When I tried, I got an Add New Hardware wizard which I couldn't find any drivers to satisfy, and subsequently ended up with a bricked iPhone From what I could tell, the iPhone needs a different driver when it is in Recovery mode (for some sort of rawer and/or more low level access, maybe?), which x64 doesn't seem to support. I don't know much about drivers, but I'm guessing that normal access through iTunes relies on a simple 32 bit driver that runs fine on x64, but to get down and dirty at the low level requires a specific x64 driver that doesn't exist (only a Vista 64 bit one does, and it's not compatible with x64). Anyway, no major harm done as I managed to unbrick my iPhone with iRecovery |
