Visio - Exchange Server Connector

A great little add on for Exchange 2007 and Visio 2007 which will help automatically graphical representations of your Exchange 2007 site topology, including sites, servers, and connections for an organization. It looks like it will be very handy tool for consultants doing an Exchange health check to automate some of the documentation process of the existing environment.

The Microsoft Office Visio 2007 Connector makes it easy for Exchange administrators to visualize, explore, and communicate complex information. Instead of viewing single user data at a time, administrators can create data-connected Visio diagrams that display data at a glance and dramatically increase productivity.
The Microsoft Office Visio 2007 Connector is an add-in for Microsoft Office Visio 2007 that you can use to diagram a Microsoft Exchange Server site topology, including sites, servers, and connections for an organization.

Hi - I'd really like to use the Exchange Connector for Visio, but, for some reason I am not getting the ExMap option in my Visio 2007 menu bar, and the Connector Addin shows as Inactive when i look at it in the Visio 2007 Trust Center. it does not show as a disabled add-in, and whne i try to add it to the Add-In' list, I get an error message about the dll not being a valid Office Add-In.

Do you have any ideas on what else I can try? I've tried remove/reinstall, repair. I have not tried to manually register the DLL's. If someone has an insight - that would be awesome - thank you in advance

I'm running into the exact same issue you are today and I really don't know why or what is different than before.

I ended up using the Active Directory Topology Diagrammer which has been updated to include the functionality of ExMap and also this Visio Plug in, from what I can tell. It will map out Exchange servers for you.

The add-in was created using the Visual Studio Tools for Office technology and the runtime component is needed to load the add-in. You may not have this installed which is causing the problem.

By installing the Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Tools for Office Second Edition Runtime (VSTO 2005 SE) (x86), located at
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=8315654B-A5AE-4108-B7FC-186402563F2B&displaylang=en, prior to installing the Visio Exchange Add-in the the add-in will load and work as expected.

The installation order is critical, if the add-in is installed prior to installing the Visio Exchange Connector add-in, the add-in could fail to load.

Preferred Installation Order:
1) Visio 2007 Professional
2) Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Tools for Office Second Edition Runtime
3) Visio 2007 Exchange Connector Add-in.
