I think you posted too soon. In good Microsoft fashion it gives an Error 500, "Sorry, We were unable to service your request. Please try again later."
I downloaded the Beta off of TechNet today and just finished playing around with it on a Dell Optiplex 745 with 1GB of RAM and an Intel Dual Core CPU. Windows transition effects and the overall system feels sluggish. I like that they freed the Gagets, Themes are better, and I like the dragging windows to the top/side/trans piece. Overall, my take is that this should be Vista SP3 and be made available to all Vista customers as a SP. If not, I see XP in my future. I have an Enterprise license at my company and I won't install Vista to the enterprise the way it stands. We've already converted 25 employees to Mac Pros. Obviously, I can install 7 under my license, but I think the non-enterprise customers should be able to as well without forking out for the upgrade to 7. A few things I can't stand with Vista and they still show in 7: 1) When I double-click on my network icon in the system tray why can't I get to the status without navigating several dialoges. It was easy and simple in XP. Or, when I hover over the network icon at least give me my current IP address. 2) Give me back my old style Explorer. When I click the down arrow give the option of drives/Desktop, not a list of websites I recently went to. I've only spent 30 minutes with it so I'm sure there are goodies tucked away someware. I just noticed the "Add VHD" in Disk Manager so I'll explore that one. I like the built-in ability to burn .ISO images but it would be better to have a built-in ability to mount them and save CDs or having to install another utility. *end of rant*
Strange as it might sound, the forums are a good place to discuss issues like this. The more people at MS know about the dissenting opinions and what people really want in this release, the more likely change can occur.
I'm not saying it will or it can at this point, but the more people that voice their opinion, the better. I had trouble accessing the forums today, but I have only tried after hours after work.
Argh, I meant to say have not had trouble accessing the forums today.
I just hit the link again and it's up again. I'll jump on the forums in the next couple days and leave some feedback as I dig into it.
