Ok, so I installed VMWare 6.5 on Windows 7 (build 7000) x64, now I have a __vmware_user__ account showing up on the welcome screen, how can I hide this?
Never mind my previous comment I found solution (same as XP, but keys need to be created in Win 7)
1. Open Registry Editor. 2. In Registry Editor, navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserList 3. Create the following entry: Username: REG_DWORD (Where Username is the username of the user you want to hide from the Welcome Screen). 4. Assign a value of 0. 5. Close Registry Editor. 6. Reboot.
Hi,
I have tried the above stated steps as advised by it seems like I am not able to connect to my host machine from my VM Windows 7 Any advice? I am currently running Windows 7RC edition but I am not able to get it to connect to the internet from the VM
I have tried to follow your instructions, but when I change the netowrk type from NAT to Host-only for one of my VM's and then run it, I get following error:
Host-only adapter does not seem to be running I don't know how to fix this, maybe your screencast will help
Just what I needed! At step 11 though I think it should be click restart and then apply otherwise apply then restart resets the gateway IP address to the previous value.
Also, I found that this only works correctly if I assign DNS ip addresses to the NAT settings. This is accomplished by going to the NAT tab and clicking on edit and then clicking on the DNS button where you add DNS addresses by clicking on the add button. I've used OpenDNS - primary address is 208.67.222.222 and secondary address is 208.67.220.220 and everything is working fine.
I tried a work around like this and it worked for about 2 minutes then stopped working I had to remove everything that i've done and do it over again, would work for the same amount of time and then stop working.
Hi Mike, I encountered the same problem with you, which is that the host-only way works periodically.
So have you fixed this this issue?
haha, i was halfway through these steps when I realized this was your blog. thanks aaron! they work well. Now my u-verse 2wire gateway complains about a router behind a router, but that's another story.
Has anyone got this working in a newer build of Windows 7?
Here I am again replying to myself.
It appears that in build 7048, MS are using a different subnet for ICS, (192.168.137.0 / 255.255.255.0), changing the instruction above but using 137 instead have got me up and running.
Build 7068 went back to using 192.168.0.x, but build 7077 has reverted to 192.168.137.0 again. Arrghh
Hey Nic you're totally right. But I'm currently using W7 RC Build 7100 and it did work. But I also needed to disable and then enable the network connection inside the VM for it work. Thanks dudes!
Hmm, I tried these instructions but got nowhere. My N/W adapter in VMware doesn't grab an IP address (can't contact DHCP server time out) and thus still can't get out of its little shell...does one need to bounce the VM or the physical machine to get this to work properly?
GREAT!
Of course I did try, and failed, and almost gave up VMware until I accidentally also read your last post. LOL But then I can confirm that this trick also works on build 1077 Thanks again, you're a lifesaver!
Dude - you totally saved my day. I installed Windows 2008 R2 Server (RC) and lost connectivity. With your workaround everything works lika a charm!
A million thanks!
I have a fix available here: http://anordinarything.com/2009/05/windows-7-rc-7100-nat-not-working-in-guest-fix/
For the RC.
anyone manages to do step 20.?
when doing this step i can't choose a network card...???
any possible to do step 20.?
I just have no NIC to choose from... help! |
