I've noticed a disturbing trend on TV lately, that has honestly made me watch less TV lately. Pop-up ads, during TV shows. The current ones I can think of off of the top of my head were during primetime on NBC sometime last week. I'm used to commercials and zoning them out but when I start seeing flashing "Punch the monkey"-type pastel multicolor ads on the bottom of the screen that is normally reserved for weather bulletins, I start turning off TVs.
So, I doubt any TV exec is listening because they just see $$$$, but I can't be the only one that is using the TV less and less due to things like this.
I totally agree. I even wrote a letter to the FCC concerning this annoying practice. The commercial break they show the commercial and then when the show starts they do a pop up of the very same ad. What can be done to stop it.
I have been changing the channel. FX pop ups have some serious volume issues the pop up sound effects are so much louder then the volume level of the show, I actually jumped alittle. The second time, I just changed the channel!
I've also seen other channels where the pop ups reach up half way up the screen, almost blocking the show! We have pop up blockers for our web browsers. Now we need them for our televisions. I understand the need for commericals some one has to pay for TV, but its getting alittle ridiculous. Hopefully if enough of us change the channel or just turn the TV off. Network Executives will realize that its not good business to annoy its viewers, and other advitisors will stop putting regular commericals on those shows that have the pop ups.
