Wow.
In the past few months, my grandfather on my mom's side was diagnosed with terminal multiple myeloma, after already fighting off prostate cancer the year before.
Not too long after that, his wife, my grandmother, was diagnosed with stage 3b stomach cancer, after fighing off breast cancer years ago. Stomach cancer does not respond well to chemo and in general is very nasty.
It has really rattled my cage because as a family we always spent Christmas over at their house every year. I realize people can't live forever but what timing.
Today, my dad had skin cancer taken off his eyelid, of all places. It was caught early, and such a strange location to get something like that, but it was the slow growing type. He gets plastic surgery tomorrow to piece back together his eyelid. Amazingly enough, they really didn't have to remove much at all so the procedure tomorrow should go quickly.
Also, today, I found out my uncle has lung cancer. He's been a smoker for most of his life so I can't say that it isn't totally unexpected but I sure am hoping they caught it soon enough that it hasn't spread. They found it by accident really, before he was showing any symptoms.
So, take care of yourself the best you can, wear sunscreen and don't smoke. Thankfully I do use sunscreen and I've never smoked but this just reenforces those beliefs and habits.
