I used to subscribe to product specific RSS feeds to catch new cumulative updates for Office but now there is a dedicated site inside TechNet which makes this practice redundant.

Go here to check out service packs and cumulative updates for Office, Forms Server, Groove Server, PerformancePoint Server, Project Portfolio Server, Project Server, Search Server, SharePoint Server, and Windows SharePoint Services. Very handy to bookmark.

Found the soon-to-be-active download link to Office 2007 SP2 while reading a KB article published here about performance improvements in Outlook 2007 SP2. It looks like this is in addition to the speed improvements seen in the Feb 2009 and late 2008 Outlook updates.

Too long to list here overall but a good read.

This is a pretty neat case study, and I have to admit it is a pretty slick Sharepoint site that I like talking about when people wonder about Sharepoint and what it can do for productivity.

Despite what the title may suggest, it has nothing to do a with a college kegger.

These are the fixes from between December and February while we were re-integrating the branches and could not produce hotfix builds.

The build number for the blackout hotfixes is 12.0.6303.5000. These hotfixes are also post SP1 and include everything that was in the post SP1 rollups.

I'm doing a lot with Server 2008 lately so expect many Server 2008-centric posts for a while.

This page provides IT pros with resources to help deploy Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 to Windows Server 2008.

As of Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 with SP1, you can install Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 and Office SharePoint Server 2007 on Windows Server 2008. You cannot install Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 or Office SharePoint Server 2007 without service packs on Windows Server 2008.

About 20 fixes, plus one that we have encountered quite a bit with Sharepoint 2007:
Every time that a crawl is run to crawl site collections, memory usage for the OSearch process (Msssearch.exe) increases.

Sharepoint superstar Tom Dietz pointed out a helpful hotfix if your Sharepoint/WSS Timer Service keeps throwing errors in the event log. Even though it might seem like bad memory in the server, it is most likely related to KB 946517.

Symptoms include:
Event IDs with 6398, or 6432, or 7076 are logged.
Tasks that are scheduled with the Sharepoint Timer service do not run.

Just a quick shoutout before people reboot their servers and find that their Sharepoint sites won't start up. Read about the workaround here, until an updated patch is released.

More and more of these are coming out from Microsoft. The first one I was aware was the Exchange BPA, and now WSS 3.0 and Office 2007 has one that you can download here.

I think this falls under the 'unsupported' umbrella by Microsoft but it is nice to know that it is at least doable for installations that don't need/want MSDE and would rather use the 'real' SQL for their WSS sites. I do believe you might be able to trick WSS into using SQL 2005 Express with WSS 2.0 SP2 but I could be wrong on it. I haven't tried it out personally but would be curious if anyone has had any luck with it.

I haven't tried it myself but with all the backend changes made to SQL 2005, this does not surprise me a bit.
I'd be extra curious to see what it would do on an x64 box.
